Home Careers

If you are looking for a way out of the rat race, you are not alone. Millions of Americans are unhappy with their jobs, and wish to become financially independent. A home career is the best way to achieve this. In our fast paced world of today, many people are forced to work long hours at their jobs, and have little time to spend with their families. This has led to a society where many family relationships are under strain, and studies show that the US has one of the highest divorce rates of any country in the world. Having a home career will allow you to spend more time with those you love.

In addition to this, many people are tired of working hard for corporations that are becoming wealty off their efforts. While they become wealthier, your own well being is sacrificed in the process. Many employers today fail to reward their employees for their hard work, and many employees become resentful. They may even begin to hate their jobs, and will dread going to work each day. If this situation describes you, it sounds as if you are a person who wants to become independent. While there may be risks involved with pursuing a home career, the rewards are well worth it. First, there is no limit to the money that you can earn at home. Your income will be determined by your skill, not by the raises that you will be given by your employer.

The second advantage of having a home career is that you pick your own hours. If you need to reserve a day to be with your family, there won’t be a need to get the permission of your boss. You will have the power to pick the hours you want to work. While having a home career will give you power, this power will not come without responsibility. People who procrastinate are unlikely to succeed. When you have something that needs to be done, you must not let anything stand in your way. If you are thinking of starting a home based business, the first thing you will want to think about is the field you will work in.

Picking the right career is important. While it should be something that excites you, it should also be something that has a high income potential. What are you good at? Most people are either good at technical subjects like math, or they are good at subjects like writing or art. There are a few people that can use both sides of their brain effectively. You must first decide where your skill level lies. If you are a mathematically oriented person who enjoys dealing with numbers, why not become a freelance programmer? Even if you don’t know any programming languages, you can do research to find out what programming languages are in demand. After you’ve done this, you can take a class at your local community college.

If you are looking to start a home career, one tool that you will not want to be without is a computer and the internet. The internet is the best friend of those who wish to start home careers. The internet can allow you to get the tools and resources you need to start your business, and you can network with people all over the world for a very low price. There is no limit to the number of things you can do with a home based business, and the benefits are well worth it.

Have you Fallen Off Your Career Ladder?

Have you taken a career break to provide childcare at home and you want to return back to work, but are finding it hard to get back onto the career ladder? Perhaps your circumstances have changed and you are now having to stop being a stay at home mother and are now contemplating being a working mother. So how do you get back on the career ladder?

The best way to re-establish yourself in the workplace is to get a position, even if it is one that is slightly lower than the position you were in before you had children. It is always easier to find a good position, when you are employed, rather than still being at home. Then you can either try to gain promotion internally within the company you are working for or use that company as a springboard to launch yourself back up the career ladder.

You may also want to think about undertaking further training and/or education. This will demonstrate that although you are now serious about being a working mum and you want to sharpen your skills and acquire more skills to help progress your career.

Try to make sure that you can adopt flexible working or flexi-time, so that you can fit work in easily around childcare arrangements. Then you will be able to meet all deadlines and won’t have to drop work to plug unexpected any blips with childcare. This proves your reliability and commitment to the company and should help you start again on the career ladder. If that may be difficult for you, then consult a recruitment agency about which vacancies they have that offer flexible working and perhaps try out new types of employment: you may find that you love doing something which you would never have dreamed of doing before.

Above all, be realistic. You have taken a break and may not be able to command the same salary you had prior to leaving, but once you get a  foot on the rung of that ladder, there is no reason why you cannot quickly rise to the top of your chosen career.

Can A Full Time Mum Fit In A Part Time Job?

If working part time seems as if it would be too much hassle, then perhaps you should think again. Full time mums really can fit jobs in around school hours and there are lots of different positions that you can try out. Schools are often a great place to work in, since you are able to work hours that are not longer than your children’s school days, so you can pick them up from school.

Jobs available at schools are varied, from teaching assistants right through to lunchtime or break supervisors.

But if you want to get away from children for a bit, why not think about taking a job from say 10-2, which gives you enough time so that you can get to school to pick up your children? Whilst it is great being a full time mum, part time work also offers the opportunity to meet other adults and have an adult conversation for a change.

You could consider working from home, but for many mums returning to the workplace is also about widening social horizons, so working at home may not be the place for you, since you won’t meet other people. But if you relish the prospect of peace and quiet after the noise of children around the home, then working from home, may be a great way to kick-start your career again.

Before you make any snap decisions about whether to go out to work or get a job that enables you to work from home, sign up with a recruitment agency, to get some temporary jobs that will give you a real flavour of what is available and, perhaps more importantly, you will be able to find out exactly where you want to work and how many hours you can fit around your full time role as a Mum!

Working Mums

Life is currently hard on all fronts!  Job security seems to be a thing of the past, money is too tight to mention and it is really hard to maintain a good work-life balance, even if you are single, but if you are a Mum and you are working then it can feel like life is pretty tough indeed.

But the one thing to bear in mind, is that the days of SuperMum, who held down a massive job in the city, whilst raising 10 children and finding time to write 6 books and make all her own bread are over. Nowadays people are more realistic about what it is like to have babies or children and be working as well and possibly the only person who has unrealistic expectations is you. Everyone else is probably amazed at how well you are doing, but you probably think that you aren’t working hard enough on all fronts. So be realistic and lower your expectations: the world will not collapse if the dusting is not done as regularly as before or the ironing isn’t always dealt with immediately- and you really don’t have to be the last person in the office every night!

So if you are aware that things wont be perfect, at least all the time, then you should find going back to work easier. In fact returning to work after having maternity leave or when your children are a little older should not be seen as a negative thing. Many women say it helps give them a sense of self that can disappear at home and that it helps to be able to bring in another wage and the extra money certainly comes in handy for many.

Employers are also now recognising that the skills that women have in the home, when bringing up children, are good organisational skills and so they recognise child experience as being of worth.

Although the current jobs market is particularly tight, there are jobs around and if you don’t see ones that you immediately like, then why not think about contacting a recruitment agency, just to keep your options open? Now all you have to do is to think about how you will spend the extra cash you have coming in!
